Below are the some the ways Caledonian Iberian ConeXions S.L. can offer to increase your number of visitors and for walkers provide a service to people wanting to walk in the area.

The tourist season started well with an Easter extravaganza of C�mpeta Arts walkabout, bumper Semana Santa celebrations and lots of walkers in the sierras. The village was buzzing � the way we like it! Tourism brings lots of economic benefits to a destination, and walking is top of the league as far as niche marketing goes. I intend attending the above seminar to promote the walking festival and it would be useful to have some pre-publicity available - say about 1000 brochures about the proposed event. I plan to drum up funding at the event and see some of the powers that be there. The brochure would include maybe a few accommodation providers, a few restaurants, ...

Although C�mpeta is already known as a walking destination, and there are a few walking holiday companies here, a walking festival can help tourism businesses by raising the profile of the area, thereby bringing more visitors. Some of the other benefits are as follows:

By working collectively we can raise more money for the area

Proposed Walking Festival for the Eastern Axarquia

Phil Hares, Joost Schepel and I (Tina Irving) met this morning (16th April) to discuss a way forward for a walking festival for the Eastern Axarquia. When I moved to Spain, I didn�t expect to be setting up another walking festival - I have run the Caithness & Sutherland Walking Festival for 5 years, bringing economic benefit to the north of Scotland. I think we all have enough contacts and knowledge between us to get this off the ground.

The walking routes developed by Caledonian Iberian ConeXions S.L. have been sold under licence to the C�mpeta town hall. They will have them available in English in the C�mpeta Tourist Information Centre shortly.

Meanwhile, tourism was high onthe agenda at a business meeting on 26th March in C�mpeta, and walking and sustainable tourism were considered to be most important. We will be continuing to work with the town hall to develop further routes and provide an information service on walking ...

Route of the Maquis

There is a keen interest in the Maquis in the Axarquia following the publication of David Baird�s book "Between two fires" available from local bookshops now. The C�mpeta tourist information office now has information about walks in the area - if you are in the area, drop in. If not, then you can order them and pay on line at http://www.spain.iberacal.com. If you need maps or want to know about other routes, or want a bespoke information pack, please email us at info@iberacal.com and we can help. A representative from Caledonian Iberian Conexions S.L. will be attending the conference on walking in Malaga in June. Details not yet available.

Tourism development

Tina Irving from Caledonian Iberian ConeXions S.L. is assisting the C�mpeta town hall to develop the lucrative walking market. There are a number of walking holiday companies in the area, but using her experience in Scotland, Tina is helping with infrastructure and information provision. F�brica de Luz (C�mpeta)

The C�mpeta town hall are working to develop the F�brica de Luz as a centre for walkers. The recently opened route between Torrox, Frigiliana and C�mpeta passes by the F�brica - it�s such a beautiful spot with lots of potential for walking in the area. From Acebuchal, from Casa de Mina and from C�mpeta there are great routes for mountain biking and horse riding.
